Fire victim’s condition improving

A Lawrence man who was rescued from a fire at his south Lawrence home Monday was listed in fair condition today at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and his son said he expected the man to be released today or Wednesday.

George Robson, who is in his late 60s, was born with a condition that affects how well he can walk, said his son, Steve Robson, a Lawrence bail bondsman.

When a fire broke out at 1507 W. 27th St., Brad Shuck was passing by and heard George Robson’s call for help. Shuck was able to safely pull the man from the smoke-filled home.

Medics took Robson to LMH, where doctors are treating him for smoke inhalation injuries, but he suffered no burns, his son said.

“I appreciate Brad and what he did. Without him, it would be a different story today,” Steve Robson said.

Shuck is an agent with McGrew Real Estate.

According to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical, the fire was an accident, but investigators are still trying to determine the cause. The home sustained an estimated $90,000 damage.

Steve Robson said his stepmother, Ada Robson, a nurse at LMH, was at work during the fire. The family is still working on temporary housing details.

Robson also said he visited Shuck’s home Monday night to express his thanks.
