Firefighters from six local departments battled a fire that destroyed a barn in Kanwaka Township early Saturday.
No injuries were reported.
Kanwaka Fire Department Chief Chris Lesser said the blaze, at 619 N. 1602 Rd., was difficult to fight because of several vehicles inside the barn.
"Originally, it was a pretty good-sized fire," he said.
Crews were dispatched at 10:40 p.m., and declared the blaze under control at 1:07 a.m.. However, a neighbor reported seeing more pockets of flame in a corner of the barn at 1:24, requiring crews to return to the site. The fire was doused once and for all by 2 a.m.
Firefighters were not able to enter the structure because of fire damage, Lesser said.
The Kanwaka Fire Department was aided by the Lecompton, Wakarusa, Clinton, Willow Springs and Lawrence fire departments.
Lesser said no cause has been determined. He did not expect an investigation to follow, due to the extensive damage to the barn.
