Authorities search for missing inmate

Area law enforcement personnel are searching for a missing Douglas County Jail inmate, a spokesman said Friday.

Officials refused to name the inmate, who they said did not return to the facility after a judge granted a temporary leave for Christmas. A judge allowed the inmate to be released from jail from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, when she was ordered to return to custody.

Sheriff’s deputies and Lawrence Police are looking for the individual, said Sgt. Steve Lewis, sheriff’s spokesman.

“The missing inmate is not considered dangerous,” he said in a statement received by e-mail.
