The Lions fell in gut-wrenching fashion on Saturday evening in the third-place game of the Saints Classic at Overland Park Aquinas.

Lawrence clung to a two-point lead with 20 seconds remaining before Junction City hit a runner to tie the score. On the ensuing offensive possession for LHS, Lions guard Taylor Bird got caught up in a scrum near the basket and was called for an over-the-back foul with three seconds left.

Junction City went on to make its second free throw and win the game by one point.

Bird led the Lions with 23 points, guard Haley Parker added nine, and forward Jasmyn Turner scored six.
