Driver in fatality on Ousdahl Road was speeding

The driver who was killed when his car struck a tree on Nov. 29 was driving faster than the 30 mph speed limit and too fast for conditions, a Lawrence police report said.

Casey Alan Anzek, 19, of Lawrence, died in the single-car crash in the 2500 block of Ousdahl Road. The report said that he was pinned against the steering wheel and dashboard of the 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and that there was significant front-end damage to the car. The accident happened while it was raining.

A Coors beer bottle was found near the car, according to the report. And while alcohol was present at the time of the accident, alcohol use was not listed as a contributing factor in the accident report. Police said an impairment test was taken, but results are pending.

The driver’s toxicology report is part of the investigative report and not open public record, police Sgt. Bill Cory said.

Four passengers were injured in the crash. Jasmine Garland, 17, and Lauren Myers, 16, both of Lawrence, were still listed in critical condition Wednesday at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Police identified the other passengers as Arthur Munger, 20, and Cora Garland, 16, both of Lawrence. Both were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where Munger was treated and released. Garland was later transferred to KU Hospital, where she w
