Court hearing for chase suspect postponed a week

A court hearing for a woman charged with hitting a police officer during a high-speed chase has been continued to next week.

Barbara Jo Schnegelsiepen, 27, will be back in Douglas County District Court at 9:30 a.m. next Tuesday. The purpose of the hearing will be to schedule a preliminary hearing, when prosecutors will present some of the evidence they have against Schnegelsiepen in hopes of convincing a judge she should stand trial on the charges against her.

During a short court appearance Tuesday, Chief Assistant District Attorney Dave Melton and Schnegelsiepen’s attorney, John Clayton Johnson, said they had not received all of the investigative information concerning the case.

Schnegelsiepen was arrested Dec. 2 after allegedly burglarizing two Lawrence homes and then leading law enforcement officers on a chase into the rural areas of the county. A Lawrence police officer was injured when he was struck by the car officers were pursuing. He has since been released from the hospital.

Schnegelsiepen remains in Douglas County Jail on $350,000 bond.
