KU geography trivia event open to public

A major geography trivia event through Kansas University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will be open to the public this year.

The “Globe-O-Mania” challenge will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Spooner Hall, across Jayhawk Boulevard from the Natural History Museum. It is a quiz-show-style contest open to people of any geographic skill level that’s sponsored by KU’s geography department.

The 2007 challenge for KU students included more than 350 participants. The public challenge is free, and teams of four to five people or individuals interested in being matched up with others can sign up at clas.ku.edu/outreach/clasacts or by visiting the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt. The registration deadline is Thursday, and questions can be sent to Jessica Beeson by e-mailing eliasb@ku.edu or by calling 864-1767.

Teams can earn a bonus point by bringing at least five nonperishable food items that will be donated to East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams.
