Lawrence man convicted in stabbing during bar fight

A Douglas County jury on Tuesday convicted a 32-year-old Lawrence man of aggravated battery for a stabbing during a bar fight in February.

District Judge Paula Martin will sentence Rodney O’Neal Farmer on Jan. 16. Jurors deliberated for two hours Tuesday in the two-day trial.

Eve Kemple, assistant district attorney, had argued that Farmer stabbed an employee of the Jet Lag Lounge while the staff member was trying to stop a fight.

The victim had told police he was stabbed in the abdomen near his waist and cut in his left outer thigh. Farmer’s defense attorney had argued that someone else was responsible for the stabbing.
