Injury accidents
¢ Joseph Paddock, 18, was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Sunday night with minor injuries following a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in the 1900 block of Naismith Drive, Lawrence Police Sgt. Mark Warren said. The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Paddock, who lives in the vicinity of where the accident occurred, was southbound on Naismith Drive when he struck sand or gravel, Warren said. His injury was a suspected broken collarbone, Warren said.
Emergency calls
Fire caused extensive damage to an unoccupied residence at 1321 E. 18th St. on Sunday night, but no injuries were reported, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.
The fire was reported at 8:15 p.m. Sunday by neighbors, Fire Chief Mark Bradford said from the scene. The three-bedroom home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, Bradford said. He said there was heat and smoke damage to the home and the bulk of the damage was in the center of the home. He did not have a damage estimate and said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
Neighbors reported that the home's occupants had recently moved out.

The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Paddock, who lives in the vicinity of where the accident occurred, was southbound on Naismith Drive when he struck sand or gravel”Well since I live a few blocks from the accident scene (30 years now) & have been an avid motorcycle rider for 22 years in this neighborhood (University Place) I felt the need to comment:First I would like to Wish Joe a speedy recoverySecond I'm suprised the report said Sand or Gravel not Potholes or asphalt irregularities as the streets in my neighborhood are atrocious. If you doubt this, I suggest a drive on 17th street from Alabama street to Louisiana street turn left (north) 1/2 block then turn right and continue down 17th street to Mass street. This 10 block strech of 17th Street Is the worst in Lawrence. But this morning the asphalt milling machine… milled Louisiana street and part of 17th so at least there is an effort being made. If you feel your street is worse write a comment
