Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police said they responded to a vehicle rollover at 24th and Iowa Streets over the weekend. Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said early Saturday morning, an SUV was southbound on Iowa Street when the driver apparently stuck out an arm and fired a shot toward a Pontiac on the road. The driver of the Pontiac responded by performing a PIT maneuver on the SUV, which rolled over on the driver's side, Hubbel said. The driver of the Pontiac fled the scene and occupants of the SUV were uncooperative with police, Hubbel said. The Pontiac was later found disabled and abandoned in the vicinity of 26th and Iowa streets.

¢ A 21-year-old man from the Kansas City area was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Sunday morning following an altercation in the 600 block of Massachusetts Street, Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said.

The victim got into a fight with another man, whose name was not available Sunday. The victim was punched and knocked out, Hubbel said. He was transported to the hospital where he refused treatment and left. The suspect was issued a notice to appear for battery, Hubbel said.

Injury accidents

¢ A Lawrence teen was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a single-vehicle accident Sunday. Anastasia Hill, 18, was driving a 2000 Volkswagen westbound on U.S. Highway 24 about 3 miles east of the Jefferson-Douglas county line when the vehicle left the road and overturned, a Kansas Highway Patrol report said. Hill was not wearing a seatbelt, the report said. The accident occurred about 6:45 a.m.

Emergency calls

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical reported these fire calls:

¢ Smoke detector activation due to malfunction, 1:43 a.m. Sunday, 1417 Ky.

¢ Alarm system activation, no fire, 5:57 a.m. Sunday, 1025 Emery Road.

Perhaps the reason Chief Olin hasn't been idicted yet is because you are the only one who "knows" he was arrested. You also apparently are the only person in Lawrence who "knows" Olin has the power to shut down businesses. You also apparently are the only one who "knows" Chief Olin predicted we would have these problems in Lawrence and became an expert on terrorism just to deal with gangbangers.

Actually, this is how Ron Olin became a terrorist expert. Ronboy used the local gang banger venues to puff up his claimed terrorist expertise portfolio. Didn't work, did it? It took Lawrence down a dirty road of police corruption and violence for the locals to deal with. Has Olin been indicted yet? How long before he retires? So be it.

I'm surprised Nick Danger hasn't brought up how he invented the PIT maneuver and used it to capture enemy spies.

C. Give them weapons and lock them in.

They all do head out of town-after Axis closes. They all go out to the Outhouse until bar close there.

yoornotmee 5 years, 8 months ago

So how about we move Last Call/Axis out to the country, give them a huge parking lot (since they obviously need it) and then either:A. Take their weapons, lock them in, and give a big, long lecture about being a responsible citizen; or,B. Have road blocks at all the roads that lead to town and have the police offer free breathalysers and check everyone's names for warrants, and then issue a bunch of DUI's and arrests.

Confrontation (Anonymous) says: "I was amazed by the amount of vehicles parked by Club Axis on Saturday night.... I wonder how long it will be before this becomes the new Last Call."That is where all the Last Call patrons went. Merrill, Lynch & Mob merely pushed the problem 2 miles west.

Back to the original story, did the police recover any illegal weapons? Were there any arrests of felons or other criminal types. We all know this wasn't normal "road rage". Are we going to get a follow-up story? We need the facts here.

"Am I the only one who doesn't know what at PIT maneuver is?"------------------Well, I was going to suggest that it is when you cup the palm of your hand under your armpit and squeeze with your arm in order to make a "fart" sound...but it seems that woodenfleaeater and eel have provided a more reasonable explanation.

The PIT maneuver is a method, popular with US police departments, by which one car pursuing another can force the pursued vehicle to abruptly turn sideways to the direction of travel, causing the driver to lose control and stop. The acronym "PIT" has a number of different meanings, depending on the agency using it or school teaching it. The most common meanings are Precision Immobilization Technique, Pursuit Intervention Technique, Parallel Immobilization Technique, and Precision Intervention Tactic. In each case, the meaning is clear, no matter how the acronym is explained. Other names for the same maneuver are Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), "tactical ramming,", "legal intervention" and fishtailing. This method is mostly used to end a car chase more safely. Other methods of terminating a pursuit include TPAC and the use of Spikes (also known by various trade names such as Stop Sticks or Stinger).

Gina, it's a Dragonball Z reference. It's referred to in the De-Motivational Posters.

I was amazed by the amount of vehicles parked by Club Axis on Saturday night. Cars filled every available spot at 9th & Iowa. The Merc parking lot had several full rows of cars associated with the bar. The new Biemer's Barbecue location had it's parking lot packed. I'm guessing that motel right next to it and those down the street were packed, too. There was a huge line of people waiting at midnight outside the club. I wonder how long it will be before this becomes the new Last Call.

But, but Last Call is closed. The gangs have moved on....yeah from downtown to the rest of the town. Wow this is really scary.

Is anyone else concerned about this kind of activity starting in Lawrence? I know I am.

"an SUV was southbound on Iowa Street when the driver apparently stuck out an arm and fired a shot toward a Pontiac on the road."is this person a super hero? They have a gun built into their arm?

" A 21-year-old man from the Kansas City area was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Sunday morning following an altercation in the 600 block of Massachusetts Street, Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said".Could this be more "Gang Activity" right here in Lawrence?

"Hubbel said early Saturday morning, an SUV was southbound on Iowa Street when the driver apparently stuck out an arm and fired a shot toward a Pontiac on the road. The driver of the Pontiac responded by doing a pit maneuver on the SUV"What? Are we having a "Turf War" right here in Lawrence?
