Fall victim returns to United States

Kansas University sophomore Shannon Tuley is home in Overland Park after she was released from a hospital in Paris, where she suffered a fall while studying abroad.

KU officials announced Tuesday that Tuley was out of a medically induced coma and was continuing to make progress.

Tuley’s father, J.T. Tuley, said his daughter was released from the hospital in Paris late Sunday evening. She and her mother returned to the United States on Wednesday.

“She’s fine,” he said. “She’s going to need some rehab.”

J.T. Tuley said they planned to visit a doctor on Monday to determine how much treatment she would need. He said it was unclear how long she would be in rehabilitation.

Tuley is not enrolled at KU this semester, her father said.

Tuley was placed in a medically induced coma after her fall on July 4. Paris officials believe it was an accident.
