Police release more information about home invasion

Two Lawrence men were ordered to the floor at gunpoint during a home invasion Monday night at a Lawrence apartment complex, police said.

“The suspects allegedly hit one of the victims in the head with the end of the gun, and took wallets and other possessions from the two victims, then fled the scene,” said Kim Murphree, police spokeswoman.

The two victims were visiting a man at his residence in the 2400 block of Alabama Street, Murphree said. About 8:15 p.m. Monday, the apartment resident left for a moment and two other men entered the home and ordered the victims to the floor.

Two men were arrested in connection to the alleged home invasion. Murphree said that detectives have interviewed several people about the incident and that the investigation is ongoing.

Officers were called to the apartment after a disturbance with weapons was reported, a police supervisor said, but the call turned out to be a home invasion.

Police were on scene for about three hours as they waited for a search warrant to get inside a nearby apartment where they searched for possible suspects and evidence.

A 36-year-old Lawrence man was arrested in the 2400 block of Alabama late Monday night on one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary.

A 19-year-old Lawrence man was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the police department’s Investigations and Training Center, 4820 Bob Billings. He was booked on two counts of aggravated burglary and one count of aggravated robbery.
