Kansas University Hospital has won a national award for its care of stroke patients.
The Get With the Guidelines 2008 Gold Sustained Performance Award was given to the hospital for sustaining at least 85 percent compliance in seven areas for treating stroke patients. To earn the award, KU kept the compliance steady for 24 straight months, according to a press release.
The hospital also received a Get With the Guidelines Bronze Initial Performance Award for its coronary artery disease treatment and care.
"The secret to the success of our stroke program has been teamwork," Dr. Gary Gronseth, medical director of the Primary Stroke Center, said in a statement.
Get With the Guidelines is a voluntary initiative that is meant to boost safety by ensuring treatment is in-step with the latest guidelines. The awards will be presented in a ceremony later this summer.
