KU assistant basketball coaches rewarded

Like Bill Self, Kansas University’s assistant basketball coaches received significant raises in pay this week.

KU officials indicated Friday that assistants Joe Dooley, Danny Manning and Kurtis Townsend will each be paid $234,000 next season. Last year, Dooley made $175,000, Townsend $175,000 and Manning $134,000.

“I believe our assistant coaches deserve to be some of the highest paid assistant coaches in America because they are some of the very best in America,” said sixth-year KU head coach Self, who this week signed a contract good for $3 million a year over the next 10 years. “The positives Danny Manning brings to the staff, program and university almost cannot be measured. Joe of course is a terrific coach and recruiter. Kurtis is a terrific coach who has proven that over time. I believe our assistants are as good as any in the country.”
