KU Hospital gets cancer award

Kansas University Hospital’s cancer program was recognized once again for its outstanding achievements.

The American College of Surgeons gave the hospital the Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award for 2007. Fewer than 200 of 1,345 cancer programs received the award.

This is the second time KU Hospital has received the award, the first coming in 2004. No other Kansas City-area hospital has received the award twice.

“Earning the Outstanding Achievement Award for a second time shows our commitment to patient care is consistently strong. This is the first survey done at our Cancer Center and Medical Pavilion in Westwood. It is clear the Westwood facility has provided a quality setting for the excellent care provided by physicians, nurses and other health care providers,” KU Hospital CEO Bob Page said in a statement.
