Calling all actors in fourth through 12th grades! Do you need something to do for the summer? Make sure that you can be at Lawrence Arts Center on Sunday.
Tryouts will be Sunday at the arts center, 940 N.H., for the 2008 season of Summer Youth Theatre.
Those who are in eighth through 12th grades need to call the arts center for a specific time slot. You will be on stage by yourself with your prepared audition.
Fourth through seventh graders will be doing activities in a whole group.
If you currently are in fourth through seventh grade, just come ready to act, speak loud, and remember, energy! Make sure you would be willing to sing if you are going to try out for “Willy Wonka.” Jennifer Glenn will be directing this musical with Oompah Loompahs and the famous song, “The Candy Man.” The show goes on June 14-16.
The other play for younger students, “The Sword and the Stone,” was written by Will Averill, who adapted “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for the arts center last year. The play follows the trials and tribulations of young Arthur, who becomes king. It will be directed by Ric Averill. The show will be performed July 17-19.
“Inherit the Wind” will be the more serious play for eighth through 12th graders. The rehearsals for a drama version of the evolution trials will start May 29. The show will be put on June 21-24.
To go with “The Sword and the Stone,” eighth through 12th graders are going to do the musical “Camelot.” The musical will be directed by Ceridwyn Goulter with musical direction by Mary Baker. Performances will be July 24-27.
To audition, if you are currently in eighth through 12th grades, you need two contrasting monologues – for instance, one comedy and a small section from a Shakespeare play. Also, you need to memorize and sing 16 bars of one Broadway song for the musical.
The rehearsals for eighth through 12th graders will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday for three weeks before the performances.
Fourth through seventh graders will rehearse from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for three weeks leading up to the performances.
