Regents let KU buy land for driver training

? The Kansas Board of Regents has authorized Kansas University to purchase 140 acres in Reno County for $374,000 to build an emergency vehicle driver training course.

The facility will be part of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, a unit of KU, 12 miles southeast of Hutchinson, near Yoder.

Nearly half of all injuries to law enforcement officers are due to vehicle crashes, yet Kansas does not have an emergency vehicle operations course, officials said.

The training facility will be designed by Treanor Architects of Lawrence.
