Lawrence High senior Mallory West placed third in three of Saturday's four events, as well as in the all-around individual competition, to lead the LHS gymnastics team to a third-place finish at the Shawnee Mission North Invitational.
Free State, which did not take enough gymnasts to field a full varsity squad, placed 14th.
West led all Lawrence competitors with an all-around score of 35.375. Olathe East's Taylor Berggren (36.325) and Annie Pauls (35.850) claimed the top two spots.
West's best showing of the night came on the beam, where she finished third with an averaged a 9.20. She also finished third in the vault (8.45) and bars (9.025). Her only non-third-place finish was in the floor exercise, where she placed fifth with an 8.70.
LHS was bolstered by several other solid showings, most notably Maria Carvajal's seventh-place all-around finish.
Rachel Rasmussen, LeighAnn Krishe and Sarah Athey also helped the Lions finish in third.
Free State, meanwhile, was led by strong showings from Ameila Firns-Hubert, Kelcy Bowers, Jessica Hase and Tawney Carter.
Next up, the Lions and Firebirds will travel to Shawnee Mission Northwest on Tuesday.
