LHS 1st at home quad
Lawrence High placed first and Free State fourth at the LHS gymnastics quadrangular on Wednesday.
The Lions scored 101.6 points to runner-up Olathe South’s 97.25. O-North had 95.1 and Free State 90.8.
Lawrence gymnasts had five of the six best marks in the all-around. Mallory West of LHS won with a score of 36.05, followed by Free State’s Amelia Firns-Hubert (33.8), Lawrence’s LeighAnn Krishe (32.8) and Free State’s Drue Davis (32.4). Maria Carvajal of LHS was sixth in 32.05.
West was first in the beam and floor and second in the vault, while Davis was first in the vault and second in the floor. Firns-Hubert placed second in the bars
“They all made improvements and did really well,” LHS and FSHS coach Kathy Johnson said. “For the second meet out, they did better than the first. We’ll just try to continue that trend and keep healthy. It was fun.”
LHS and FSHS will compete at 11 a.m. Saturday at SM North.
