Case flashes other athletic talents

Jeremy Case, who played a lot of basketball this past summer, added some other sports to his repertoire.

“I took a bowling class,” explained Case, Kansas University’s fifth-year senior guard from McAlester, Okla.”I like it a little but, but I couldn’t sit up there and bowl all day like Julian did.”

He’s referring to former teammate Julian Wright, who made the Jaybowl his home away from home during his two years at KU.

Case, who graduated in Communications in May, also became reacquainted with tennis on a visit to his hometown.

“I played tennis with my mom, actually. She is pretty good. She is in a little league of her own,” Case said. “She actually beat me a couple times. She can really move out there.”

Case also tackled the sport – make that the activity – of weightlifting all summer. Listed at 6-1, 180 a year ago, he’s blossomed a bit.

“I wanted to get a lot stronger. I gained eight pounds. I’m close to 190 now,” Case said. “I still need to get a little bigger. Just being able to take hits. When I’m playing defense and somebody dips his shoulder, being able to hold my ground, things like that.”

Case enters his final season of college basketball with lofty ambitions.

“Hopefully get to play a lot more than last year, but just do whatever I can to help the team,” Case said.

Of the squad, he said: “We’ve got a great team. I think we’ve got a lot of weapons. A lot of people have matured from last year which is big. I think we have a chance to go far.”
