Law enforcement report
¢ Lawrence police arrested one man and another is on the loose after fleeing police in a car and by foot Friday.
According to Sgt. Paul Fellers with the Lawrence Police Department, at 2:45 p.m. officers observed a car leaving the scene of an accident in the southbound lanes of the Kansas River bridge. Details of the accident were unavailable. The vehicle then fled through Constant Park, 230 W. Sixth St., and hit a telephone pole on West Fifth Street. Fellers said the vehicle was disabled. The driver and passenger ran on foot, and one man ran north and one man ran south.
One man was arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections for a parole violation, Fellers said.
The man who fled to the south was not located.
Lawrence police ask any of the bystanders who may have witnessed the incident to call the police department at 832-7509. Police are especially interested in hearing from anyone who may have been taking photographs in the area.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ A 67-year-old Lawrence man reported an auto burglary and the theft of several items to Lawrence police on Friday. Items stolen include textbooks, a $300 Sidekick cell phone and clothes. The estimated loss is valued at $1,442. The incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday in the 2500 block of West 31st Street.
¢ A 28-year-old Lawrence woman reported a $1,000 theft of cash, traveler’s checks and Marlboro cigarettes to Lawrence police on Tuesday. The incident occurred between 6:10 p.m. Sept. 21 and 2 p.m. Tuesday from the 3300 block of Iowa Street.
¢A 37-year-old Lawrence woman reported a theft to Lawrence police on Tuesday. The woman reported $1,000 cash and a checkbook were stolen from the 300 block of East Ninth Street and a door frame and file cabinet were damaged. The total estimated loss is valued at $1,270. The incident occurred between 10 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.
¢ An 18-year-old Shawnee man reported the theft of a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am to Lawrence police on Thursday. The car is valued at $1,200. It was reported stolen from the 1400 block of Ohio Street between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.
