Scoring Summary: KU-Baylor

First Quarter

8:24: KU – Scott Webb 27 field goal – 3-0

-The scoring drive was set up by a muffed punt return by Joe Bennett. An opportunistic Derek Fine pounced on it for KU at the Baylor 36. KU had a chance on third-and-five from the Baylor 10, but Todd Reesing’s pass bounced from Marcus Henry’s hands, leaving the Jayhawks to settle for a three-spot.

4:20: Baylor – Caleb Allen 25 field goal – 3-3

-Baylor executed its dink-and-dunk offense successfully on its second possession of the game, working inside the KU 10. Blake Szymanski’s third-down pass attempt for Justin Akers in the front corner of the end zone could been an interception for Chris Harris, but the broken-up pass resulted in Baylor’s first points.

4:08: KU – Marcus Herford 88 kick return (Webb kick) – 10-3

-Getting some revenge after a horrific game against Baylor a year ago, Marcus Herford split the middle of the kickoff coverage for an 88-yard score in which no one had a chance to catch him after he crossed midfield.

Second Quarter

11:06: KU – Dezmon Briscoe 10 pass from Todd Reesing (Webb kick) – 17-3

-Jake Sharp was the workhorse on the drive, racking up 43 yards on five carries. Briscoe had a 15-yard grab earlier in the drive, but kept a lengthy play alive by finding an open nook in the back of the end zone while Todd Reesing held the ball in the pocket. In the end, the play looked easy.

1:30: KU – Jake Sharp 4 run (Webb kick) – 24-3

-After being set up with incredible field position, Todd Reesing threw two accurate, short passes to Derek Fine and Dexton Fields. On an inside give from the Baylor four-yard line, Jake Sharp went untouched for his fifth score of the year.

:43: KU – Brandon McAnderson 15 run (Webb kick) – 31-3

-It looked to be a designed halfback pass, but instead, Brandon McAnderson tucked the ball and ran it in down the sidelines for his seventh touchdown run this season.

Third Quarter

7:23: KU – Marcus Henry 54 pass from Todd Reesing (Webb kick) – 38-3

-After dropping his third pass of the day, Marcus Henry proved that it wasn’t a mental issue, as he took advantage of press coverage at the line on a quick slant and shot down the middle of the field, 54 yards for the Jayhawks’ second TD through the air on the afternoon.

2:04: KU – Scott Webb 34 field goal – 41-3

-KU again took advantage somewhat of great field position, with two Jake Sharp runs setting up Scott Webb’s second field goal of the game.

1:49: Baylor – David Gettis 97 kick return – 41-10

-David Gettis responded to KU’s trifecta just posted on the scoreboard by showing off his incredible track speed, sliding to the right sideline and taking off for a crowd-silencing score and giving Baylor its first touchdown of the game.

Fourth Quarter

13:03: KU – Scott Webb 35 field goal – 44-10

-KU again had a chance for paydirt, but a ball thrown to Dezmon Briscoe fell incomplete as he tumbled to the turf in an open pocket of the end zone. Webb was true yet again with his third field goal of the game.

2:43: KU – Kerry Meier 1 run (Webb kick) – 51-10

-After going for it on fourth-and-five and converting just inside the 20-yard line, Kerry Meier finished the drive by doing what he has proven to do best – running the football. He shoved his way in from a yard out, putting the finishing touches on KU’s sixth win of the season.

:08: KU – Angus Quigley 22 run (Webb kick) – 58-10

-Angus Quigley’s first career score came while KU was trying to run out the clock, but he bounced outside and slipped in just inside the front right pylon.
