JUCO player Little commits to KU

Mario Little, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound small forward from Chipola (Fla.) Community College, on Sunday said he would play basketball at Kansas University next season.

He chose the Jayhawks over Kansas State and Illinois.

“For me, it was all about winning,” Little said Sunday afternoon. “I wanted to go to a spot we can win every year.”

Little said he reached the decision at mid-week, but ‘wanted to sleep on it.’

“I picked Kansas because I think it’s a great spot,” he added. “It has good tradition and great fans. It’s a great program and they win. This is the best decision for me.”

Little said it was difficult to turn down offers from Kansas State and Illinois.

“It being my hometown school,” he said of the Illini, located a couple of hours from Chicago. “I don’t really want to talk about the other schools. I want to talk about Kansas. It’s the right place for me.”

Little called this a dream come true.

“Growing up, I never thought I’d be playing at Kansas,” he added. “I’ve really worked hard, and I’m really excited about the next chapter in my life once I get there.”

Little averaged 10 points and six rebounds per game in his freshman season at Chipola. He is KU’s second known commitment for the 2008-09 season, joining Roeland Park Miege senior guard Travis Releford.
