KU professor helps make IMAX movie
Kansas University professor Larry Martin has been working with the directors of the new IMAX movie, “Sea Monsters, a Prehistoric Adventure” in order to perfect the animation of the characters.
Martin, a curator at the Natural History Museum, said in a statement that many of the creatures depicted in the movie would have lived in seas that covered the land we now know as Kansas.
KU’s Natural History Museum has many examples of animals shown in the new film, including the Styxosaurus, the Xiphactinus and a Tylosaurus discovered by a KU researcher in 1911, according to a KU statement. A cast of that specimen hangs in the museum lobby.
The movie opens Friday at theaters across the country. Locations near Lawrence showing the movie include the Olathe AMC 30.
