Gary Bedore’s KU Hoops Notes

Mario Little, a 6-foot-6 sophomore guard from Chipola (Fla.) Community College and Chicago’s Washington High, continues to weigh the pros and cons of his three finalists – KU, Kansas State and Illinois.

“We’ll meet later this week. I don’t know at what point he will make a decision,” Chipola coach Greg Heiar said Wednesday. “He likes a little bit of something of each school.”

¢ Thomas to visit Vegas: Quintrell Thomas’ AAU coach told Rivals.com Wednesday the 6-8 forward from St. Patrick High in Elizabeth, N.J., still is planning on taking his official visit to UNLV on Oct. 12-13. He has already visited KU, Rutgers and Maryland.

¢ Late Night visitor: Michael Dixon, a 6-foot junior from Lee’s Summit (Mo.) West, will attend Oct. 12 Late Night in the Phog. Dixon is considering KU, Iowa, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, North Carolina and others.

¢ Morris brothers ponder three: Twins Marcus and Markieff Morris reiterated Wednesday they are down to three schools: Villanova, KU and St. John’s.

“We haven’t set any (visit) dates yet, but more than likely we will go to Kansas for midnight madness,” said Marcus Morris, a 6-7 forward and Rivals.com’s No. 37-ranked prospect. Markieff, 6-8, is No. 74.

“We just don’t know Kansas like we know the other schools,” Marcus told Rivals.com. “We do like their fast style of play.”

¢ Near hole in one: KU coach Bill Self won the closest-to-the-pin competition at Wednesday’s “Beat the Coaches” event at Lawrence Country Club.

Self put his tee shot on the par-3, No. 11 hole within six inches of the cup. Self awarded the prize to the second-place finisher. Self’s playing partners: KU baseball coach Ritch Price, men’s golf coach Kit Grove and associate AD John Hadl.

¢ ASSISTS: Several individuals will serve as honorary assistant coaches at this year’s Late Night in the Phog.

Those who contributed to Self’s ASSISTS Foundation: Jack and Candy Clevenger, Fred and David Ball, Larry and Linda Kaminsky, Miles and Paula Schnaer, Dana and Sue Anderson, Cheryl Womack and Dean Piearson, Bill and Rob Pritchard, Tom and Julie Kivisto and two anonymous couples.
