Bond cut for woman accused of fatal hit-and-run
LYNDON ? The woman accused of driving the truck in last month’s fatal hit-and-run accident south of Lawrence saw her bond on related charges cut in half Wednesday afternoon.
Ramona Morgan, 48, is accused of several traffic charges in Osage County, where authorities say she led state troopers on a high-speed chase immediately after the Sept. 11 accident in Douglas County.
Her bond, initially set at $2 million, was reduced to $1 million at a hearing Wednesday. Even if she pays the bond, Douglas County still has a “hold” – along with an additional $200,000 – on the fatality charges here.
A Dec. 5 preliminary hearing was scheduled on the traffic charges, which include fleeing and attempting to elude the trooper. No date has been set to hear the Douglas County charges of reckless second-degree murder.
The charges stem from an incident on U.S. Highway 59 at Pleasant Grove when a pickup truck drove through a one-lane restricted work zone and struck and killed Rolland G. Griffith, 24, of El Dorado, and Tyrone T. Korte, 30, of Seneca. Injured in the incident was Curtis Delzell, also of El Dorado.
Morgan and her daughter, Sabrina Morgan, were later arrested in Osage County following a police chase. Osage County charges against Sabrina Morgan have been dropped; she faces no Douglas County charges.
