Scoring Summary: KU-Nebraska

FIRST QUARTER

9:04: Nebraska – Joe Ganz 3 touchdown run (Jake Wesch kick) – 7-0

-After Nebraska tipped a Kyle Tucker punt following a Jayhawk three-and-out to start the game, Joe Ganz was impressive right from go under center. He hit Maurice Purify under pressure on a third-and-10 for 18 yards to set up first-and-goal. Three snaps later, Ganz laid out over the goal line for the game’s first points.

6:38: Kansas – Kerry Meier 13 pass from Todd Reesing (Scott Webb kick) – 7-7

-Todd Reesing was 3-of-6 on the drive for 63 yards, as KU maintained its reputation by answering another opponents’ score in quick fashion. For Kerry Meier, it was his first career TD catch, coming on a sharp slant route.

4:58: Nebraska – Marlon Lucky 62 pass from Joe Ganzy (Jake Wesch kick) – 14-7

-Marlon Lucky was wide open in the flat, and was able to evade Kendrick Harper’s attempt to drag him down from behind along the sideline, putting Nebraska back up by a touchdown.

3:16: Kansas – Brandon McAnderson 2 run (Scott Webb kick) – 14-14

-The key play, other than Marcus Herford’s 49-yard kickoff return, was a reverse with two running backs next to Todd Reesing on second down at the Nebraska 25. The ball was flipped to Marcus Henry, who took it to the two-yard line. A pass interference call in the end zone two plays later set up an easy TD run for McAnderson.

1:00: Kansas – Jake Sharp 26 pass from Todd Reesing (Scott Webb kick) – 21-14

-Todd Reesing set the single-season KU record for touchdown passes on the play, finding the end zone through the air for the 19th time this season. It surpassed Bill Whittemore’s 2003 total of 18. Sharp had two steps on his defender while streaking down the right sideline, making the catch in space with ease.

SECOND QUARTER

10:34: Kansas – Brandon McAnderson 9 run (Scott Webb kick) – 28-14

-Brandon McAnderson carefully slipped in along the right side for his second touchdown of the game. He has 13 yards on six carries, but two touchdowns. KU has scored a touchdown on four straight drives since its three-and-out to open the game.

9:44: Nebraska – Maurice Purify 19 pass from Joe Ganz (Jake Wesch kick) – 28-21

-Purify’s TD catch was impressive, coming in mid-air over Aqib Talib. It was his second big snare of the drive, having taken a pass over the middle for 60 yards to start the drive and set up the score.

8:30: Kansas – Marcus Henry 5 pass from Todd Reesing (Scott Webb kick) – 35-21

-Henry’s TD catch was just the dessert, with the main course being the 41-yard pass he hauled in a play earlier on a rope over the middle from Reesing. The touchdown pass made Todd Reesing the first KU quarterback ever with 20 TD tosses in a season.

2:43: Kansas – Brandon McAnderson 1 run (Scott Webb kick) – 42-21

-Brandon McAnderson’s third touchdown run of the game tied a Nebraska record for points allowed in the first half of a ball game. McAnderson has 48 yards today, and five touchdowns in the last two weeks.

1:16: Kansas – Dezmon Briscoe 14 pass from Todd Reesing (kick failed) – 48-21

-Todd Reesing’s fourth touchdown pass of the game was set up by a John Larson interception, which followed a Caleb Blakesley deflection of a Joe Ganz pass. Dezmon Briscoe made a nice cut move at the five to propel himself across the goal line.

:12: Nebraska – Jake Wesch 27 field goal – 48-24

-The drive was stymied inside the 20 thanks to a false start call and nice KU pass coverage. The 48 points Nebraska allowed, though, was the most ever allowed by a Husker team in the first half of a ball game.

THIRD QUARTER

11:39: Nebraska – Maurice Purify 14 pass from Joe Ganz (Jake Wesch kick) – 48-31

-Maurice Purify caught his second touchdown pass against Aqib Talib, this time pulling it down with one hand on a fade in the back of the end zone. He has 131 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Joe Ganz has thrown for 339 yards.

8:17: Kansas – Dezmon Briscoe 14 pass from Todd Reesing (Scott Webb kick) – 55-31

-Todd Reesing tied a school record with his fifth touchdown pass of the game, while it was a team-leading sixth touchdown catch for Dezmon Briscoe on the season.

5:45: Kansas – Dezmon Briscoe 7 pass from Todd Reesing (Scott Webb kick) – 62-31

-Briscoe scored his third TD of the game, this time over the middle after finding an open spot in the secondary right at the goal line. Reesing’s six touchdown passes in the game have set another KU record.

3:34: Kansas – Jake Sharp 11 run (Scott Webb kick) – 69-31

-KU scored a touchdown for the 10th straight possession, and this time it was set up by a Darrell Stuckey fumble recovery. It was Sharp’s second touchdown of the game, with the first coming on a 26-yard catch.

FOURTH QUARTER

11:12: Kansas – Brandon McAnderson 6 run (Scott Webb kick) – 76-31

-McAnderson’s fourth – yes, fourth – touchdown run of the day set a new record in terms of the most points ever allowed by a Nebraska team. The previous high was 70.

4:26: Nebraska – Maurice Purify 7 pass from Joe Ganz (Joe Ganz two-point pass to Nate Swift) – 76-39

-Maurice Purify’s third touchdown catch came with the game well out of reach. Though Purify on the day has seven catches for 157 yards and three touchdowns.
