Major bowl representatives looking at KU

The Kansas University football team’s 8-0 start is starting to pique the interest of some major bowl games.

The Jayhawks’ 11:30 a.m. game Saturday against Nebraska will be attended by multiple representatives of four big bowls – the Cotton, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange bowls.

The Cotton Bowl, which is played Jan. 1 in Dallas, usually gets first pick of Big 12 teams after the BCS bowls determine which teams they will take.

The Sugar (New Orleans), Fiesta (Glendale, Ariz.) and Orange (Miami) bowls are all affiliated with the BCS. Unless a Big 12 team goes to the BCS National Championship game, the Big 12 champion will go to the Fiesta Bowl. But several at-large bids are available, too, and the Big 12 might be able to put two teams in BCS-affiliated bowls such as the Sugar and Orange bowls this season.

Kansas currently is ranked eighth in the BCS standings, which help determine who plays in the BCS-affiliated bowls.
