Vestal named to all-state team

Lawrence High girls soccer coach Matt Anderson announced Monday that senior midfielder Abby Vestal has been selected to this year’s Class 6A all-state first team.

“It’s nice to land somebody on that first team,” Anderson said. “It’s voted on by the coaches, who obviously recognized what Abby did this season. It also says they see we are making strides as a program.”

Vestal helped the Lions to a 5-10-2 record this spring, including a victory over rival Free State High to secure the first regional triumph by either of the two city girls soccer programs.

For her efforts, Vestal was also named to the CENKSCA Region first team and was an honorable mention All-Sunflower League selection.

Junior midfielder Kaela Severa, junior defender Madison Bertrand, sophomore midfielder Stef Stuever and freshman forward Olivia Dykes were each named to the CENKSCA Region second team, while Stuever and sophomore defender Heather Miller joined Vestal on the Sunflower League’s honorable mention list.
