Two to stand trial in shooting case

? A judge on Thursday ordered two people suspected in a witness shooting conspiracy to stand trial.

Jeffrey Campbell, 29, and Kay F. Gaillard-Taylor, 49, will be arraigned June 4 in Franklin County District Court. At that time, they will enter pleas to charges of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Judge John Eyer issued his ruling following a preliminary hearing. Eyer, from Republic County, was filling in for a Franklin County judge who was attending a training session this week.

Campbell and Gaillard-Taylor are among four people charged in the Dec. 19 shooting of Michael Miller, 48, in Ottawa. Miller was to testify in a trial the next day in Douglas County District Court.

Franklin County prosecutors say Miller was shot to keep him from testifying against Louis Galloway, who was charged with beating Miller in Lawrence. Galloway was eventually convicted of aggravated burglary and aggravated battery.

Two other suspects in the case, Lisa K. Winter, 38, and Lee Roy House Jr., 44, waived their right to a preliminary hearing. Winter will be in court for arraignment June 25. No date has been set for House’s arraignment.
