¢ A Lawrence man faced an indictment by a federal grand jury on Thursday for receiving and possessing a firearm despite a felony conviction more than 23 years ago. Federal prosecutors allege Timothy Joe James, 45, received a 9 mm pistol and a .22-caliber rifle, as well as ammunition, on Oct. 30. It’s against the law for convicted felons to be in possession of firearms.

James had two counts of felony stealing and three counts of second-degree burglary on his record stemming from a 1983 conviction in Cape Girardeau County, Mo. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison and as much as $250,000 in fines.
