Lied Center announces 2007-08 lineup
There will be something for everyone during the Lied Center’s 2007-2008 season.
Among the 28 acts are a Broadway production of “Peter Pan” and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Pinchas Zuckerman.
Tim Van Leer, executive director of the Lied Center, unveiled the schedule April 20 before 150 devoted fans.
A smattering of upcoming opera performances was what delighted Stan Kern, who has been going to Lied Center performances since the building opened in 1993.
“That first series of the opera is a winner,” Kern said.
Van Leer said the upcoming season blended new artists with fan favorites from previous years.
One of the acts that was invited back was the Pilobolus Dance Theater, coming March 12, which includes Kansas University student Jun Kuribayashi.
“Pilobolus is always a very popular event here,” Van Leer said. “With one of their performers being a KU student, it will be a special event.”
He also said organizers tried to book younger artists and groups such as chamber music group Ahn Trio, to mix with the older, more established acts on the lineup.
“The thing that’s important about having these young artists is they’re the future,” Van Leer said. “They’re the next Emerson String Quartet.”
