Police investigating bank robbery

Bank employees at Capital City Bank talk with Lawrence Police officers after a black male with a gray hooded sweat shirt entered the Hy-Vee store at 4000 west 6th shortly before 2 p.m. and demanded money from the teller at Capital City Bank. The robber walked away with a undisclosed amount.
Lawrence police are investigating a robbery at the Capital City Bank inside the Hy-Vee food store at Sixth Street and Monterey Way.
According to police Capt. Dan Affalter, a man walked into the bank area, which is just inside the store and demanded money. Employees complied, Affalter said.
The robber displayed no weapon, police said.
The man ran south from the store after the robbery, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. today.
Police describe the robber as a black man who is in his 20s, weighing 150 pounds, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9. Police said he was wearing a gray hooded shirt, gray sweat pants, white tennis shoes and a black ball cap with white letters on the front.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the police investigations unit at 830-7430. After hours, information can be called into the police department at 832-7509 or 843-TIPS.
