Law enforcement report

¢ A 27-year-old Lawrence woman told police she lost $2,935 in an Internet scam between May 12 and Thursday after a person who contacted her through her MySpace page sent her a $5,500 check and asked her to refund some of the amount through a money order. The $5,500 check turned out to be fraudulent, but the bank didn’t catch it before the woman wired the money, according to a report.

¢ A 20-year-old Lecompton man suffered injuries from being hit in the head with a bottle about 2 a.m. Saturday after he and a friend crashed a party in the 1600 block of West Fifth Street, according to a police report. His friend, a 20-year-old Perry man, suffered minor injuries after being struck in the face with a whiskey bottle.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ 1200 block of Iowa Street: A $2,000 Chevrolet Silverado, an 8-foot trailer valued at $800 and $2,000 worth of lawn equipment were reported stolen between May 12 and May 14.

¢ 2500 block of Redbud Lane: A 43-year-old man reported that an acquaintance stole his Chevrolet Astro van, valued at $1,500, between 4:46 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday.

¢ 1800 block of West Fourth Street: A 50-year-old man reported his Mazda and contents, valued at about $1,850 total, stolen at 6:05 a.m. Saturday.

¢ 1300 block of West 24th Street: A 2006 Toyota Corolla, valued at $12,000, was reported stolen between 10:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

¢ 400 block of North Second Street: A 47-year-old Wichita woman reported $1,188 in property, including a $500 pair of prescription glasses and a $200 silver rosary, stolen from her vehicle between 8:30 p.m. and 8:35 p.m. Saturday.

Injury accidents

¢ A 56-year-old Topeka man, Robert C. Matthews, was taken Monday to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a wreck on westbound Interstate 70 near Lawrence. He was driving a 1992 Saab about 1:45 a.m. when he struck an unoccupied car that was disabled in the roadway from a previous accident, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report.

According to the Turnpike Authority, Charles W. McCroskey, 23, Lee’s Summit, Mo., had wrecked his 1997 Honda Civic at 1:28 a.m. at the same location in the westbound lanes. McCroskey also was taken to LMH.
