County measure makes conveyances more convenient
A resolution approved by Douglas County commissioners Wednesday night allows the public works director to accept certain types of right-of-way conveyances on their behalf.
Allowing the public works director to accept conveyances will save the landowner the time and trouble of having to make an appearance before commissioners.
More conveyances are expected to occur in the future because of new property access management regulations that commissioners approved earlier this year.
A typical conveyance that is required under the new regulations calls for a frontage road to be built for access to a series of adjoining properties along a principal arterial, or two-lane paved road.
“Rather than have five or six entrances out onto the main road, there would be one,” Public Works Director Keith Browning said. “In order to do that, we would need some additional right of way.”
The county would build the frontage road, but the landowner would need to convey that strip of land. Commissioners want Browning to be able to accept that conveyance.
The county is especially looking at properties that have yet to be developed. When landowners seek a residential entrance permit for certain properties, they will be required to work with the county to ensure the safest accesses for users of a main road, Browning said.
