transcript:
“Lawrence police shoot two dogs in North Lawrence this afternoon, killing one of them. According to Sergeant David Hubbell of the Lawrence Police Department, animal control officers were called to the 700 block of North Third Street around two-o-clock, to catch three pit bulls running loose. After nearly an hour of trying to round up the aggressive animals, police officers were called in to assist. That's when, police say, one of the dogs lunged at an officer, who fired his shotgun, killing the animal. Police say one of the dogs was also threatening to attack a child riding on a bike nearby—that dog was shot in the leg, but likely will survive. Police say the officers felt their safety was in danger; the owners of the dog killed say their pet was a Lab-mix, not a pit bull, and they question whether the animals could've been tranquilized instead. We'll have much more on the story tomorrow on 6 news at 6.”

I am all for vicious dogs being contained by shooting. I have absolutely no problem with it.
AND I question the values of the kind of people who own vicious dogs. Are they upright and community-loving individuals? I rather doubt it.
I don't care what kind of dog it is. If it is vicious, and it is threatening to attack, kill it.
Remember, I got bit by a dog on the levee years ago, near my home. I have no patience nor sympathy for vicious dogs. End their lives if they are not socialized to function well around strangers.

well said mach , its called owner responsibiity. Having lived in the country alot of my life its a known way of life if your dog strays he's going to get shot , no questions asked.
The other issue is selecting your pets , I have had shepard mixes all my life becuse they are a bit mellower than fullbloods . Still smart and protective but not aggressive.
It is sad this lady lost her dog but having been chased in my yard by one of these its frigging scary. Had I owned a gun at the time I would have let him have it too.
