Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 23-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man early Sunday morning on a battery charge after a disturbance at Last Call, 729 N.H.

Officers arrived after 1 a.m. to respond to a disturbance at the club; they later arrested the man for his suspected involvement in a fist fight. Medical personnel treated the victim at the scene but did not take the person to the hospital.

The victim was not from Lawrence, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Susan Hadl. According to Douglas County Jail records, the suspect who was arrested was released on $100 bond early Sunday morning and given notice to appear in Municipal Court.

Fire calls

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical personnel responded to a call of smoke in an apartment building at 10 p.m. Sunday in the Colony Woods Apartments, 1301 W. 24th St.

Firefighters detected a smoky smell and slight haze before they identified the source as a small air-conditioning unit on a balcony, said Division Chief Joe Hoelscher. Firefighters unplugged the unit and turned it over to the building’s maintenance staff, he said. No one was displaced due to the incident, he said.
