Law Enforcement Report

¢ Lt. Kari Wempe of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the two individuals involved in Saturday’s car accident south of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 59. Wempe said the pickup truck was driven by Steven Currant, of Lawrence, while the passenger car was driven by Becky Chapman.

Wempe said Chapman was taken to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., in critical condition. A hospital spokesman could not provide an update on Chapman’s condition Sunday. The accident remains under investigation.

¢ Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical responded to a report of a structure fire at 1912 W. 25th St. early Sunday morning. Firefighters who arrived asked for a second alarm at the building, offices for Jayhawk Property Management. The fire was brought under control within 16 minutes. There were no injuries, and the building was unoccupied. Division Chief Joe Hoelscher said fire investigators left the scene Sunday afternoon, but the cause of fire was as of yet unknown.
