Wells chosen for Hall

Former Lawrence High volleyball coach Joan Wells is among 12 individuals selected for the Indianapolis-based National Federation of State High School Associations Hall of Fame.

Wells and the 11 others – including former pro football standout Jim Plunkett and baseball player Terry Steinbach – will be inducted at the NFHS summer meetings July 4 in Palm Desert, Calif.

Wells won 15 Class 6A state volleyball titles and finished second seven other times during her 27-year coaching career with the Lions. She retired in 1997. Wells also coached softball for 16 years, guiding LHS to its only state softball championship in 1977.
