Law enforcement report
¢ Several residents reported hearing what sounded similar to gunshots being fired near the Orchards Golf Course about 3 p.m. Wednesday near 3000 Bob Billings Parkway. Lawrence police went to the area but couldn’t find evidence or suspects.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ The Lawrence Virtual School contacted Lawrence police about the alleged theft of two of its laptop computers. The computers were loaned to students but hadn’t been returned after they left the school last year. Police were attempting to get in touch with the parents of the students. The computers together were valued at $3,000.
Injury accidents
¢ A 24-year-old Atchison woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Tuesday when her 2000 Pontiac Sunfire was rear-ended by a 1999 Ford Expedition on northbound Iowa Street near West 24th Street. Kristina Dobbs was stopped in traffic when her car was struck and pushed into a 1996 Ford Windstar. She was treated and released.
¢ Two Lawrence residents were injured in an accident about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Connecticut Street. Eve Elliott-Schmidt, 43, was driving north on Connecticut when her 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt traveled left of center and struck a 2007 Mazda GX7 going south. That car was driven by Ricardo Gutierrez, 56. Both were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.
