Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police are investigating a report from a 22-year-old Lawrence man who alleges a white male struck him in the head with a beer bottle Feb. 27 at the Jayhawk Cafe, 1340 Ohio. The man told police he was talking with a friend when the unidentified male came up to him and pushed him. A physical exchange ensued when the victim was struck by the bottle. The incident was reported to police March 8.

¢ A Lawrence police officer was on patrol shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of New Hampshire Street when he heard what he thought could be a gunshot, according to a police report. Officers searched the area but found no evidence of a shooting and no witnesses.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ Lawrence police are investigating the alleged theft of cash and personal property from a 43-year-old Lawrence woman. The woman reported that at 4:35 a.m. Saturday she awoke to sounds of someone moving in her basement. She reported seeing a suspect open the door to her and her husband’s room. The woman got out of bed and found the front door of the residence open. The suspect is described as a male about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build and shoulder-length hair. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of West Third Street.

¢ A 84-year-old Lawrence woman told police that between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Sunday, an envelope containing a check for $85 to Meals on Wheels was taken from her mailbox. The envelope was recovered by a neighbor in the driveway of the victim’s residence. The envelope had been opened but the check was still inside. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of West 21st Street.

¢ Lawrence police arrested three men Monday afternoon on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit robbery. A man told police he was attacked, beaten and robbed of cash, a cell phone, shoes and other items in the alley in the 900 block of New Hampshire Street. The man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was expected to be treated and released, Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said. The three suspects were booked into Douglas County Jail on Monday night.
