Law enforcement report
¢ Lawrence police are on the lookout for two suspects involved in two robberies late Tuesday, including one who hit a woman in the head as he made off with her purse. The incidents took place within 15 minutes of each other; however, police believe the incidents are unrelated.
A 25-year-old woman was vacuuming her car at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday at the RACO Car Wash, 2828 Iowa, when a suspect jumped up from the driver’s side of the car, with her purse in hand. The woman tried to grab her purse, but the suspect hit her in the side of the head and fled to the east.
He is described as a white man in his late 20s or 30s with short, brown hair and 6 feet 1 inch tall. He was wearing white shorts, a green shirt and a white ball cap.
The victim estimated her loss at $294.
¢ The Walgreen Drug Store at 400 W. 23rd St., was robbed at 10:39 p.m. Tuesday when a suspect lunged across a counter and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. A witness saw the suspect get into a vehicle driven by another unidentified person. The suspect is described in his late 20s to 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 185 pounds. He has a small frame, very short hair and was last seen wearing a T-shirt and white tennis shoes, according to police reports.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ Some $2,160 in compact discs and a case were reported stolen by a 31-year-old Lawrence man from the 1300 block of Rhode Island. The items were stolen from the victim’s car between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday.
¢ A 29-year-old woman reported the theft of speakers, a JVC receiver/tuner and a Sony VCR valued at $1,500. The theft occurred at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of North Street.
Injury accidents
¢ Three Lawrence residents were involved in an injury accident at 6:53 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Kentucky Street. Cheryl L. Soza, 60, was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry when she tried to make a left turn into the St. John the Evangelist Church parking lot. As she made the turn, she was hit by another northbound vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Corolla, driven by Stewart M. Cooper, 27. Cooper was injured but treated at the scene.
Soza was cited for making an improper left turn from the outside lane.
