County commissioner’s illness cancels meeting

Wednesday night’s Douglas County Commission meeting was canceled because Commissioner Jere McElhaney was sick.

McElhaney was bitten by a tick and suffered a serious reaction to it, County Administrator Craig Weinaug said. McElhaney was on medication and in no condition to come to the meeting, Weinaug said.

Commissioner Charles Jones was out of town.

He could have participated in the meeting by phone but Weinaug said it was decided to hold the one regular agenda item over to the July 11 meeting because of the interest in it by the public.

Commissioners were scheduled to discuss issuing a conditional-use permit for Big Springs Quarry at 2 North 1700 Road.
