County to consider quarry permit change
Douglas County commissioners tonight will consider approval of a conditional-use permit for Big Springs Quarry, which is about two miles south of Big Springs on North 1700 Road.
A 30-year permit for the quarry that initially was issued in 1990 requires a review if there is a change in the quarry’s operator. The operation is changing from Martin Marietta to Mid-States Materials LLC of Topeka.
The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission and the county planning staff have recommended county commissioners approve the permit.
Commissioners will meet at 6:35 p.m. today on the second floor of the courthouse, 1100 Mass.
