Law enforcement report

¢ A driver led authorities on a chase Monday night in the Baldwin City area. When an officer attempted to stop the black Ford Escort in the Baldwin area, the driver sped away. The chase moved east on U.S. Highway 56 and turned south on East 2000 Road. Franklin County authorities then were unable to locate the driver, according to Franklin County dispatchers.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ Best Western, 2309 Iowa: $4,304.81 in cash and checks and a Commerce Bank bag were taken between 10:30 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.

¢ 300 block of Clayton Court: $2,115 worth of items, including a diamond ring and a Kansas University class ring, were taken between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Friday.

¢ A Baldwin City resident on Thursday reported two dogs missing from his property at 30 E. 1000 Road, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The man said the two dogs were previously on chains outside. He described the dogs as a German shorthair with an orange collar and a Brittany with a red collar. He said both were quality hunters. He reported that the shorthair was valued at $5,000 and the Brittany was valued at $2,000.

Injury accidents

¢ A 39-year-old Belton, Mo., man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Monday night after a two-vehicle collision at 23rd and Massachusetts streets.

The Belton man was driving east on 23rd Street shortly after 10 p.m. and attempted to turn north onto Massachusetts Street. He failed to yield and his vehicle struck a car traveling west on Massachusetts, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Damon Thomas. The collision sent the second vehicle, driven by a Lawrence man, into a telephone poll, Thomas said. The Belton man’s injuries were not life-threatening, Thomas said. The other driver was not injured.
