‘Elite Camp’ starts today

Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self will hold his first annual “Elite Camp” starting today at Allen Fieldhouse.

The camp will start this evening and conclude Saturday.

Among those participating include KU’s incoming freshmen – Cole Aldrich, Tyrel Reed, Conner Teahan and Chase Buford.

Another player of local interest – Roeland Park Miege senior-to-be Travis Releford – is expected to attend, as well. Releford, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, has offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas and interest from Arizona, Connecticut, North Carolina and others.

A number of other players KU is targeting had to back out for a variety of reasons, including ACT testing that’s taking place Saturday. Still, KU is expecting around 25 players to participate in the camp, which is around the number Self was hoping for when he organized it.

The Elite Camp will be squeezed in just before the residential camps start for 8- to 18-year-olds on Sunday. The first session will last through Thursday, with a second session going from June 17-21.
