Prisoner convicted in home break-in

A 31-year-old man already serving a prison sentence was convicted Wednesday in Douglas County District Court for a break-in at an Elm Street residence last year.

Jurors spent six hours deliberating before finding Richard E. Elston Jr. guilty of one count of felony aggravated burglary, two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of misdemeanor criminal use of a financial card.

Elston already was convicted earlier this year of one count of felony burglary of a dwelling and one count of misdemeanor theft; in another case he pleaded guilty to attempted use of a financial card.

He has prior convictions for theft and burglary incidents dating back to 1995.

“Mr. Elston has repeatedly committed crimes against the residents of Douglas County,” Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said in a statement. “I am relieved he will face further time in prison and our community will be safer for it.”

Elston will be sentenced July 20 for Wednesday’s conviction.

He is already serving a 32-month sentence and a 13-month sentence for his previous convictions.
