Interim leaders to run international programs

As Kansas University leaders begin searching this fall for a new associate vice provost for international programs, two interim leaders were named Tuesday.

Thomas Heilke and Hodgie Bricke will serve as interim associate vice provosts for international programs effective July 1, said Senior Vice Provost Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett.

Heilke, a political science professor and associate dean of international programs since 2003, will oversee faculty development, while Bricke, an assistant dean who has worked in the international programs office since 1989, will be responsible for program development.

The position was created with the restructuring of the graduate school and office of international programs in April.

Diana Carlin will resign June 30 as dean of the graduate school and international programs. She plans to spend a year with the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, D.C., then return to her job as a communication studies professor at KU.

Susan Gronbeck-Tedesco, director of the study abroad office, initially was named to the interim post but declined so she could focus on study abroad.
