Elder Rush to coach at Barstow

JaRon Rush, the brother of Kansas University junior Brandon Rush, has joined former KU guard Jeff Boschee’s boys basketball coaching staff at The Barstow School in Kansas City, Mo.

Rush will work as a varsity assistant for first-year Barstow coach Boschee, who worked as assistant boys coach at Blue Valley Northwest the past two years.

“I know JaRon wanted to get into coaching, and I thought he’d be a good person for kids to learn from and relate to,” Boschee said Sunday in announcing the hire. “He played at UCLA. I think learning that system will help me out.”

Boschee, 27, was a four-year starter at KU from 1998 to 2002.

JaRon Rush, 28, left UCLA after his sophomore year, but wasn’t drafted and played several years of minor-league basketball. Barstow is a Class 2A school on the Missouri side of the state line.

Boschee said he’d be playing in the new Kansas City summer pro league, which starts later this month at Penn Valley Community College.
