Rush’s knee surgery deemed a success

Brandon Rush’s right knee surgery has been deemed a success.

“The surgery couldn’t have gone any better. The doctors couldn’t be more pleased,” Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self said Friday, referring to right ACL surgery performed Friday afternoon by KU’s medical team in Lawrence.

“Brandon is well on the road to recovery. His rehab will start immediately, not the most strenuous rehab (right away).”

Self said Rush, a 6-foot-6 junior-to-be from Kansas City, is expected to miss four to six months, give or take a month.

Rush is a two-time all-Big 12 Conference first-team honoree and was a John Wooden Award All-America selection and a Naismith Award finalist in 2006-07. He has led the Jayhawks in scoring each of his first two seasons, including 13.8 points per game and was second in rebounding at 5.6 per contest this season.

¢ Grant to Florida?: ESPN, the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun, Florida Today and other media outlets indicate Virginia Commonwealth coach and former Florida assistant Anthony Grant is the front-runner to replace Billy Donovan as Gators’ coach.

Grant’s hiring would appease at least one member of the Gator’s incoming recruiting class, which is ranked No. 1 in the country by Rivals.com.

Of Grant, point guard Jai Lucas, the son of former NBA player and coach John Lucas, said: “Everybody says he’s a real good guy. The reason I committed to Florida was the school in general. It felt like a good place to attend college. They have a great fan base.”

Lucas, a 5-10 guard from Houston’s Bellaire High, chose the Gators over Oklahoma State and others. Other members of the recruiting class: Adam Allen, Nick Calathes, Chandler Parsons and Alex Tyus.

¢ Not me: The St. Petersburg Times mentioned Self and Marquette’s Tom Crean as possible candidates at Florida.

“There’s no truth to that. I’m not going anywhere,” Self said.

¢ Pritchard seeking deal?: ESPN’s Chad Ford says Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard would like to acquire one of the draft’s top small forwards, perhaps in a trade for Zach Randolph. ESPN says Pritchard likes KU’s Julian Wright, as well as Florida’s Corey Brewer and Florida State’s Al Thornton.

Ford says Wright and fellow top prospects Kevin Durant, Thaddeus Young and Javaris Crittendon worked out together 10 miles north of the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday night.

¢ Crawford to Colorado: Former Blue Valley North player Casey Crawford has announced plans to transfer to Colorado.

The 6-9 Wake Forest freshman averaged 1.1 points a game last season. Crawford will sit out the 2007-08 season under NCAA transfer rules.

Crawford averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots per game as a senior at BV North.
